Obscure and Strange law scenarios

  1. You live in Iowa, and you find that you are quite hungry. The only issue is that you are lost in one of the abandoned towns of Idaho, and there is no food anywhere to be seen. You eat your own arm after somehow safely amputating it. Is this legal?
  1. You are selling pickles in Connecticut, and a man comes up to your pickle booth. He takes a pickle, drops it approximately 1 foot from the ground. The pickle did not bounce. Is this illegal?
  • No, although it is a common myth created by an old case where two men were arrested for adulteration and misrepresentation of food products. In 1948, the FDC commissioner, Frederick Holcomb discussed some ways to check for good pickles, and one of those ways was to test to see if they bounced or not. The two men in question were selling pickles that were decomposed and contained rattail maggots. Many websites incorrectly state that pickles must bounce in Connecticut without actually doing their due diligence and checking the laws. -Sources (Connecticut State Library who had to dedicate many hours to researching this due to the number of people who requested info on the supposed law): https://libguides.ctstatelibrary.org/law/picklehttps://libguides.ctstatelibrary.org/ld.php?content_id=56920355
  1. You are travelling to another state for a vacation you have been anticipating for a while. You blow past a state trooper on the highway doing going over the speed limit. He, of course, pulls you over. He asks if you know why he pulled you over. You say, "Sorry for speeding, officer, I have been driving all day and I just need to stop somewhere soon because I really have to poo. Am I in Arkansas (pronounce the S) yet? Is what you asked legal?
